Wounded Yet Still Walking
People who do not understand suicide grief are often quick to point out how we need to "buck up" and get on with life. I remember hearing: "Life goes on. You can't dwell on it." However, in order to maintain the integrity of one's true self and one's healing process, these mandates from others sometimes need to be ignored. People may want us to pretend nothing is wrong. But when we deny our true feelings, we deny the very core of our being. There is a way to politely say, 'Gee, thanks for sharing,' and then feel our feelings anyway. The grief process requires finding people we feel safe with in order to share our innermost thoughts and feelings. When others minimize, deny or belittle how we feel, we need to keep looking until we find a compassionate and caring ear.
Daily Affirmation:
